Label TextThe Zischägge derived from helmets in Turkey and the Near East, but it was popular in seventeenth-century Europe among soldiers on horseback. Warfare was changing, and even armored horsemen were making use of firearms. The open-face design of the Zischägge provided better visibility to perform more complex battlefield maneuvers at the cost of reduced protection.ProvenancePurchased by John W.
