Label TextEeckhout was born in Amsterdam where be became a pupil of Rembrandt around the late 1630s. According to Houbraken, Eeckhout was also "a great friend" of Rembrandt. The impact of his teacher's style is especially seen in his religious pictures. More original are his genre scenes such as this one painted in 1652. Here Eeckhout continues the theme of elegant garden and terrace parties which dates back to the sixteenth century.ProvenanceKing of Holland, The Hague, then owned by the Dingwall Collection (Captain Dingwall) (dates unknown), then acquired by R. Langton Douglas (1920s), then consigned to Messrs. P. and D. Colnaghi (dates unknown), then sold to the Worcester Art Museum, December 5, 1922.
