Mark, on bottom: REVERE in rectangle.Label TextPaul Revere, who learned his trade and inherited his shop from his father, was one of Boston's most successful silversmiths. Entrepreneurial versatility drove this success. Revere and the workers he employed produced more than 5,000 documented items ranging from modest buckles to spoons to luxury wares such as this teapot.

Revere's shop adapted to changing tastes and technologies. This teapot reflects the fashionable neoclassical style of the day, with its restrained geometries, fluted sides evoking a column, and engraved decorative swags. Its body was made from newly available rolled sheet silver, which was more efficient than traditional methods of hammering out forms by hand.
