Once his military government had been established in Kamakura, Yoritomo invited feudal lords and their retinues (about 10,000 guests) to a hunting party in May 1193. Yoritomo's pavilion at the foot of Mt. Fuji, near Hakone, overlooked fenced-in hunting fields and was surrounded by banners displaying the Minamoto-clan bamboo-gentian crest as well as the crests of warrior-clans (Hojo, Sasaki, Kajiwara) loyal to Yoritomo.
