Label TextWhen Trova was twenty years old, Max Beckmann awarded his work first prize in the local museum’s annual exhibition, outraging the Saint Louis Artists’ Guild. The controversy landed Trova in "Life" magazine, and inaugurated a national career. He was self-taught, and acknowledged the influence of the poet Ezra Pound on his work, and the Abstract Expressionist painting of William de Kooning, whose "Woman" series inspired this abstract nude.ProvenanceErnest Trova, St. Louis, MO
