Label TextThe Latin inscription around the edge of this tomb slab is translated: Here lies Lady Francesca de Lasta, sometime wife of Lord Maffei Dopni, Knight of Naples, who died in the year 1377. These memorials placed by her husband. She lived 31 years, 5 months, and 12 days. Though meant to depict the deceased woman, the figure does not suggest portraiture or show much advance in objective representation. Instead, the emphasis is on a rhythm of line and volume of form, with a gaunt angularity characteristic of the period.
