Label TextThis figure’s posture—his elbows resting on his knees—is common in ceramic sculptures from Classic Veracruz. Like the Woman in a Turtle Shell on the opposite end of this gallery, the Seated Male Figure is reminiscent of the ceramics excavated at the site of El Zapotal. The striking naturalism of the man’s position would have originally been enhanced with paint.
