Label TextEgyptian stone and ceramic scarabs were sometimes set in precious metal mounts designed to be worn as jewelry, including finger rings. This was also the case during the modern era, when jewelers in Europe and the United States were commissioned to create wearable settings for small antiquities. Often the metal mounts were based on ancient designs; in other instances, the scarabs’ settings were fanciful interpretations of Egyptian motifs.ProvenanceFormerly of Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs Collection; bequeathed by Mrs. Kingsmill Marrs to the Worcester Art Museum, 1925–1926.
