Label TextPotiphar, a captain of Pharaoh’s guard, brought Joseph into his household as his servant. Potiphar’s wife, who was attracted to Joseph, tried twice to seduce him, and the second time Joseph fled, leaving her holding his robe. She took the robe to her husband and falsely accused Joseph of trying to seduce her. Enraged, Potiphar imprisoned Joseph. Here Potiphar’s wife is depicted in front of her angry husband holding Joseph’s purple robe. This panel may have been one of several which depicted the entire story of Potiphar’s wife.
