Label TextWilliam Henry Fox Talbot invented salt prints, the first photographic process to use a negative which could be printed multiple times. Highland Hut, Loch Katrine was captured by Talbot on a trip to Scotland in October 1844. More informal than some of his other photographs, this image includes a figure—presumed to be his uncle—who leans against a rugged, stone building. The rich reddish tones and crisp details of Loch Katrine speak to the exceptional quality of Worcester’s print. This is the earliest, reliably dated work in WAM’s photography collection.ProvenanceLee Gallery, Winchester, MA
