Label TextOwen studied in London, and became a member of the Royal Academy in 1806. He served as painter to the Prince of Wales from 1810. He was primarily a portraitist. The boy shown in this portrait is traditionally identified as Trevor John Chicheley Plowden. He was born June 4, 1784, the third son of Richard and Sophia Plowden. He became a member of the East India Company, married, and fathered seven children. He died in 1837. This portrait, which shows him at about twelve, must have been painted in the late 1790s.
