Label TextA self-taught American painter, Tryon is best known for his bucolic landscapes and seascapes that draw inspiration from the French Barbizon School. This style is apparent in Autumn Sunset, where Tryon paints an idyllic scene suffused in twilight mist, with delicate silhouettes of feathery trees that tower over a marshy meadow. Here Tryon’s mature and aesthetic sensibilities in landscape painting are evident, as he evokes the peaceful atmosphere, rather than grandeur, of nature.
