Label TextThe finest French intaglio printmaker of his era, Debucourt was famous for his exquisite multiplate color prints. Traditionally, each color within an intaglio print requires a separate plate. On occasion Debucourt acquiesced to economic expediency by forgoing multiplate printing in favor of a technique called à la poupée (with the doll). The name refers to tightly wound felt daubers that resemble finger puppets. In à la poupée, each of the various colors are selectively dabbed on one copper plate which makes a single pass through the press.ProvenanceMrs. Kingsmill Marrs, Boston, MA
