Label TextRoybet was a popular artist in Paris, specializing in costume pictures and fanciful historical scenes. He is noted for his fluent handling and strong colorism. This is a preparatory sketch for a larger painting of the same subject, which won the Medal of Honor at the Salon of 1893.
