DescriptionWater jar with cover. Light grey ground with very fine crackles and three splotches of dark brown running glaze. Body pinched in. Flat black cover 4 1/2" diameter with handle at center.
Label TextThese three ceremony objects are examples of the understated rustic elegance (wabi) favored in tea ceremonies held in humble tea-rooms or huts. Emulating Chinese Jian ware, the ash-glazed temmoku tea bowl has a classic shape and lustrous black-brown glaze which would have served to enhance the beauty of the frothy, opaque green tea.ProvenanceWilder D.
