DescriptionCone shape, four vertical bands of black and red decoration.Label TextThis is definited an Achenes basket, could be Kern river again. Or it might be Panamint, which is spelt just like it sounds. This is also a 19th century basket. A very, very nice example. Now here again, like that Maidu, she's gotten the decoration and shape to work beautifully together. She's also done a pretty good job of spacing. She got this a little bit off. You should just shift this over here. But, really, this is the work of a master basket maker. And does the design have any significance? A lot of basket designs, as in African textiles, are named just for the convenience of the weaver like quilt designs have names that don't symbolize anything.ProvenanceOwnership history unknown.
