Label TextBellows became a popular and influential artist for his vision of contemporary life in the mode of the Old Masters. As an instructor of drawing at the Art Students League, he encouraged students to study the techniques of great draftsmen like Francisco Goya and Honoré Daumier. This confident figure is reminiscent of Goya’s "Maja" or Manet’s "Olympia," with a 1920s bob haircut. A skilled lithographer, Bellows used lithographic crayons, with their varied hardness, to control his drawings.ProvenanceMrs. Emma Bellows, New York, NY
