Label TextThis print exemplifies the fashion for Neoclassicism, made the popular by eighteenth-century tourism to Italy. Throughout Europe the imprimatur of Italian artists became important. Royal patrons brought painters like Francesco Zucarelli and Giovanni Battista Cipriani, along with the engraver Francesco Bartolozzi, to England in the 1760s. They were among the founding member of Royal Academy, and Neoclassicism was its endorsed style. Schiavonetti was an assistant of Bartolozzi, who published this print. Printed in brown ink, it has the look of an Old Master drawing.
