Label TextDenny is one of a legendary group of artists who led British art into the international mainstream. As a student at the Royal College of Art in the mid-1950s he was inspired by Abstract Expressionism. By 1959 his geometric images were deceptively simple, with a horizontal band at their base. Set directly on the floor, the unframed paintings invited one to look over an imaginary threshold. The paintings denied illusion yet acknowledged the viewer's corporeal presence.ProvenanceGift of G.
