Label TextShinobu's celadon is an example of contemporary Japanese work based on Chinese Song period celadon's. This taste for the bluish-green wares goes back to the early twentieth century when Song monochrome wares were appearing on the market in large numbers. When Kawase started working with celadon, he adhered closely to traditional Chinese vessel shapes, but he has become freer in his designs and creates more sculptural forms.ProvenanceFrederick Baekland, New York, NY
