DescriptionCrane and sprays on a gray ground inside. Outside: white and brown vertical stripes. Deep bowl with foot and flat top edge. Flaring side, flattened rim, raised on foot. No marks.Label TextCommercial excavators in the 20th century thought all Mongol ceramics were made in the city of Sultanabad, a mercantile center where ceramics were sold and where the largest concentration of such pottery was found. Consequently, these wares were miscategorized as “Sultanabad ware” for decades. However, recent scholarship suggests that those with underglaze paintings were probably made in Kashan, south of Sultanabad.ProvenanceHerter Looms, NY
