Label TextSuavius learned his craft from his father, a Liège goldsmith. In 1539 he opened his own shop, advertising work with a diamond-pointed burin, enabling him to work with astonishing delicacy. He engraved medallions and decorative objects in precious metals. Suavius may have visited Rome in the entourage of the Prince-Bishop of Liège, along with Lambert Lombard. Afterwards he associated with Lombard’s school and extensive circle in Liège. Suavius’s prints after the master reflect classicizing settings and details, and a Mannerist figure style.ProvenanceHill-Stone, Inc, New York, NY
