Label TextAlexander Ross, who resides in Alford, Massachusetts, is one of the more innovative painters working with issues of abstraction today. He generates images by first making detailed Plasticine (clay) models, photographing them, and painting from the photographs. Painted with photorealist attention to detail, Ross’ enigmatic work exists womewhere in the gap between the tangible and the imaginary, with imagery suggesting both the organic (cells, plants, faces, sponges) and the artificial (pixels, plastics, maps). ProvenancePurchased from the artist and Feature, Inc. by the American Academy of Arts and Letters
