Label TextLebrun began as a stained-glass designer in his hometown of Naples. A contract with Pittsburgh Plate Glass brought him to the United States. In 1938, he moved to Southern California, to teach at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Lebrun’s enthusiastic teaching—especially of drawing—brought him celebrity. This sheet, done when he was artist-in-residence at the American Academy in Rome, typifies his combination of representation and abstraction.
