DescriptionLoving cup decorated with grapes, wheat, cherubs, cover decorated additionally with roses; the mark for 1837 in combination with the mark of the King's head seems to indicate that the cup was made in the first half of 1837 before Victoria became queen.
Label TextThis gilded-silver covered cup was presented “To the Lady Victoria Levenson Gower from Her God-mother Victoria R., July 4, 1838.” Paul Storr became so renowned as a silversmith that he was chosen as the preeminent silversmith of the English monarchy—the “Victoria R” engraving refers to the future Queen Victoria. Typical of Storr’s later style with its opulent decoration of flowers, garlands, and putti, this cup reflects the great wealth that Great Britain had achieved by the mid-19th century. For much of the 20th century this unique piece was in the collection of long-time Worcester resident Robert W. Booth, for whom this gallery is named.
