Label TextHassam began as an illustrator while studying at the Lowell Institute and the Boston Art Club. He went to Paris in 1886, and was influenced by Impressionism, though he never met any of the artists. Back in Boston, Hassam became a leading American proponent of Impressionism. Each summer he took painting excursions near the sea, in Portsmouth, Gloucester, Old Lyme, or Cos Cob. This delicate pastel captures the unique light of a leafy road near the water.ProvenanceMrs. Frank L. Harrington, 98 William St., Worcester, MA 01609On View
