Label TextA key figure in the establishment of American photography as fine art, Day (1864-1933) was a bibliophile, collector, writer, and publisher. He learned photography in 1887 to prepare for a trip to England where he met William Morris and Frederick H. Evans. In 1893, Day and writer Herbert Copeland started a Boston publishing house influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement in Europe. Day and Copeland are credited with publishing the first American edition of Oscar Wilde’s Salome which was illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley.
