Label TextA watercolorist who later turned to oils, Demuth was a leader in the development of the Precisionist style. As a student in Philadelphia, he met poet William Carlos Williams, and they remained close for the rest of their lives. Together they moved to France, where this sketch of a sleeping figure on the beach was probably made.
