Label TextEilshemius was academically trained. However, during the eras of Expressionism and Modernism in the 1910s and 1920s, he strove to give his work the direct, naïve impact of folk art. This caught the attention of Marcel Duchamp, who invited Eilshemius to exhibit with him in Paris in 1917, and three years later sponsored the first solo exhibition of the artist’s work at the Société Anonyme in New York.ProvenanceDorothy K.
