Label TextBurrows accompanied a Marine Corps helicopter unit on their mission to rescue the crew of a downed helicopter. His focus was twenty-one-year-old crew chief James Farley, who risked enemy fire at the crash site. Finding the pilot slumped over the controls, seemingly dead, Farley evacuated the injured copilot James Magel, who died en route to base. In this last photograph from the series, Farley breaks down over the loss of his comrades. Burrows’s award-winning photo-essay “One Ride with Yankee Papa 13,” appeared in "Life" magazine on October 15, 1965.
