Label TextThe most prolific of an extended engraving and publishing family, Sadeler trained in Antwerp, and worked in Rome and Venice before being called to Prague in 1597 to join the imperial workshops. For years he lived with Bartolomäus Spranger, and engraved his designs, as well as those of other imperial artists. Emperor Rudolf II commissioned artists like Roelandt Savery, Pieter Stevens, and Paul Brill to explore and record wonderful Tyrolean and Bohemian landscapes under his sway. Sadeler’s prints helped disseminate Rudolfine Mannerism across Europe. On View
