Label TextSmall molded and sculpted figures of Buddhist and Daoist deities were very popular products of the Dehua kilns during the 17th and 18th centuries. The figure of the smiling Buddhist monk is Budai, said to be the last incarnation of Maitreya Buddha (future Buddha). Budai leans on his “cloth bag of plenty” and symbolizes future wealth, happiness and enlightenment. Zhongli quan is the official leader of the Eight Daoist Immortals, legendary figures who obtained immortality through their study and knowledge of the Secrets of Nature.On View
