Label TextThe rich vein of tabloid photography for pulp magazines and newspapers, in which Shere excelled, provided a foundation for the genre in the 1960s. Born and raised in Jersey City, he learned photography from his elder brother Sam, who shot the memorable image of the Hindenburg disaster in 1937. Before his career behind the camera, Shere was a darkroom printer for Hearst Publications and International News Photos. In 1938, he took a job with Hillman Periodicals, and after World War II they sent him to Hollywood. There he photographed for many of their magazines, including "Movieland," "Pageant," and "TV Magazine."On View
