Label TextOn Saturday evening, May 19, 1962, a gala affair was held at Madison Square Garden in New York in early celebration of John F. Kennedy’s forty-fifth birthday. Leading figures from politics and entertainment were among the 15,000 attending. They enjoyed entertainment, humorous speeches, and congratulations. The most memorable performance was Marilyn Monroe's in one of her last public appearances. She came to the podium in a full-length, rhinestone spangled evening gown to sing a sultry “Happy Birthday” with her lyrics adapted for the President.
