DescriptionStraight bar stock of low-grade iron, decorated with geometric patterns on both faces. Of plant-like form: projecting from each side of the central stalk are three asymmetrically placed sickle-shaped blades, each sharpened on facing edge; lowest blade joined at base at end. Small dark brown leather-covered grip with triangular end of shaft visible. Grip decorated with circular embossings having central band of monitor skin & surmounted at ends with narrow ferrules of braided leather. Some kind of applied seal (paper?) on grip, in shape of many-pointed star, likely imported from Europe.ProvenancePurchased by Museum on April 29, 1936 from J. C. Morgenthau & Co. (NYC).
