DescriptionOf black-lacquered wood, with red-painted highlights at edges. Rectangular cube with slightly convex sides. Hinged cover with hasp, fitting flush with sides. Top & side faces with gold-painted 'mon' of character resembling squarish, reversed "S" within a circle, perhaps the 'hiki' ("bars") of Tsuji clan. Two opposing sides each have pair of flat iron reinforcing strips & hinged carrying loop of rounded form.ProvenanceGift to the Museum by Mrs. Sumner Pingree (Boston, MA) from the Weld estate on March 27, 1943.
