DescriptionWrought iron, both faces etched with formerly gilt decoration of martial trophies, including cannon, kettledrums, banners, spears or lances. Near-parallel sided, flattened thrusting blade slightly reinforced at tip; medial rib on both faces, decorated with foliate pattern. Main body of blade pierced with four 1/4" diameter holes, 1 pair each at base & of head proper. Three-section balustered socket, each swelling of which bears embossed central rib & signs of brass brazing. 2 straps project downward from base of head, formed in 1 with unit, in line with faces, secured by 5 nails. Light staff. Conical wrought iron butt-spike with molded lip at base.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins from Fenton and Sons, Ltd., London on April 27, 1930 (their #4776 YL). Given to the Armory on July 1, 1954. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
