DescriptionElongated trianglar steel blade sharp on outer edge. At back center is long flat rectangle forged from single piece of steel, with geometric decoration on both sides. This pierces bulbous end of circular wooden shaft & is hammered flat.Label TextThis axe was made to battlefield standards, but during the 1900s the gano became more ornamental, as it increasingly took on roles as an object for spiritual and political ritual.ProvenancePurchased by Museum from Thomas Woroniecki (NYC) on March 15, 1945.Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
