DescriptionSteel double edge flattened hexagonal section blade gently tapering to point. Hollow-ground forte with pair of narrow central fullers per face. Long ricasso with thumb recess on both faces. Iron swept-hilt with pair of long crossguards recurved in plane of blade with fluted drum-shaped terminals having balustered buttons. Quillon block with short ecusson & supporting arms of the hilt, linked by open side ring with mid-length swelling. Reverse arm linked to forward crossguard by curving bar. Another bar links reverse guard to top of open knuckle guard. Inner guard with thumb ring & trifurcated branches from ends of arms of hilt to knuckle guard. Pommel shaped like crossguard terminals without button & with short base. Pommel is fluted & checkered on 2 faces. Grip not preserved. Elements appear to be old but associated with one another.ProvenancePurchased by Museum at Parke-Bernet Galleries (NYC), on 25 November 1953, as part of lot 154.
