DescriptionModified triangular-shaped blade with cutting edge facing butt & necked at shaft. Sun chiseled on both faces, each with 8 brass inlays. Both top & bottom of blade have raised ridge. Supported on wooden circular shaft by elongated lozenge-shaped metal socket, intergal with blade. Shaft tapers above blade, with copper ferrule and brass button securing its tip. Shaft above blade with raised ridge facing axe, balancing the shape of the socket. Base of the shaft secured with brass button secured by an iron wedge.ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on May 1, 1931 from W.O. Oldman (London, England). Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
