Description3 sections with symmetrical sides & narrow central plate joined by robust brass mail, riveted with copper. Lower edge bordered with row of small holes, presumably to secure a lining. Not entirely clear which end is forward, but this description assumes that the V-shaped end of the central plate is above the face, assuming that the cut-out lower edge of the side-plates should be toward the face.Side plates are hemispherical above; lower edge has cut-out section, presumably forward. Above the rear of the cut-out is a large single hole, perhaps for a chinstrap. Vertical rectangular slot replaces circular one at front point.
Center section has slightly rounded brow with iron staple. If this is indeed the rear of the helmet, it may be some kind of plumeholder. However, the shape is suggestive of a staple for a nasal guard, though unusually broad and lacking an obvious mechanism for securing a guard in place. Raised central rib, rounded in front & cut at back edge to form triangle whose ends are joined to sides. Brass sphere at apex, held by large brass central pin.
