DescriptionSteel plate of oblong shape, concave to the body, and with clipped corners. Upper corner (either right or left) fitted with five iron rivets in two rows, four of which have flattened heads to secure to the lost covering. The flat heads have been stamped in a flower-petal pattern.ProvenanceProbably Fortress of Xalkis (Eastern Mediterranean)

Purchased by John W. Higgins on 28 September 1929, as part of lot number 3, from the estate of Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Price paid for lot included 13 items (nos. 809.1-13). Given to the Museum on 15 December 1931.
