DescriptionOf "waistcoat" style, opening down the center, and secured with a sliding bar mechanism. The securing frame at front attaches to the main plates via a keyhole-slot and stud arrangment. Linen or canvas lining, secured with glue and possibly (now-lost) stitching. A partially preserved velvet edging is stitched to small lining holes around the perimeter of the plates. Hooks are riveted at the shoulders to secure a pair of now-lost backstraps, probably crossed, that originated at securing blocks at the waist.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins from Friedrick Rothbarth, Salzburg, Austria. Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
