DescriptionLance-rest is not related to any of the other components. It appears to be South German, probably Augsburg, from the 2nd half of the 16th century. It is a typical, hinged rest, once pierced with four holes in a vertical row, two of which are now filled. The L-section, pivoted arm is etched on its underside and interior rear faces with lobated lozenge arabesques on a tendril-filled, gilded ground. The spring is modern.ProvenanceEx-collection the duc de Noailles (France) the dealer Foury (Paris) Clarence H. Mackay (Roslyn, L.I.) Purchased by the Armory from the estate of Clarence H.
