DescriptionSteel. While seemingly mate to WAM 2014.800, to which it is identical in terms of form & construction, there are reasons to doubt its authenticity. Interior has questionable patina which has very uniform pitting, very bright areas of metal just at surface, irregularities in execution of rivet-holes, turned edges. Exterior has suspiciously uniform pitted patina, & unnatural, faceted feel of the rounded surfaces. Execution of anterior edges of 3 lames below the mainlame lacks the grace of 2014.800. Appears to be a later copy.
ProvenancePurchased by John W. Higgins on September 28, 1929 from Estate of Dr. Bashford Dean (Riverdale, NY). Given to the Museum on December 26, 1946. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
