DescriptionFor a cavalry armor. Formerly black from the hammer. Edge bears fine roping; the roping reverses direction oddly at front right. The surface has been altered in modern times.
Label TextThe gorget was a neckguard, worn under the torso armor to help distribute its weight. The body armor was worn over a jacket, which by the 1500s was typically made of leather. This gorget was once part of a suit of armor.ProvenanceCollection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
