Label TextThis tsuba bears the pawlonia leaf crest of the Toyotomi family. The warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, along with his predecessor Oda Nobunaga and his follower Tokugawa Ieyasu, unified Japan after centuries of feudal wars, paving the way for the peace of the Edo period. This tsuba is of the style used for a banzashi daisho--regulation sword mountings for a samurai on service at court.ProvenanceCollection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
