DescriptionCuff of 2 plates, with 6 lames underlapping to the knuckleplate, then 1 short underlapping terminal fingerplate. The 5th lame from the cuff has an integral thumb defense. There is an unusual arrangement of later strap and buckle riveted to finger end of gauntlet, with a long slotted strap running from one side of the cuff above, down through the buckle and back up to another knuckle on the cuff edge opposite. The functions and purpose of this set-up is unknown, but it could possibly be some form of lance tackle mounted in the 18th century.ProvenanceDresden Electoral Armory (possibly) Friedrich August III, King of Saxony Kahlert & Son (Berlin), their no. 87 William R.
