DescriptionBlack-painted, composite 3/4 steel armor having closed BURGONET with barred visor & riveted fall, low comb & gorget plates. Long BREASTPLATE (probably restored) without lance rest, with shallow curved neck, sharp medial ridge full-length, deep-crested belly, & strong inward turns; only neck is roped. Laminated FAULD with 3 straps per side for tassets. BACKPLATE slightly bossed for shoulderblades, & with shallow basal flange having turned edge followed by rivets. TASSETS to knees, each of 12 lames including poleyns (L partially restored). Nearly round-shouldered PAULDRONS, somewhat asymmetrical, with buckle at top & buckle-and-strap below. VAMBRACES with 2-piece rotating upper cannons, riveted "bracelet" cowters & hinged lower cannons of slightly "tulip" form; not quite a pair. Fingered GAUNTLETS with pointed cuffs, bordered by rivets, those of right with brass caps; not quite a pair.
ProvenanceArchduke Eugen's Armory, Festung Hohenwerfen, Salzburg, Austria to Dec. 1926 purchased by John W. Higgins on March 1, 1927 from Anderson Galleries (NY), their # 104. Given to the Museum on December 15, 1931. Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, January 2014.
