DescriptionNot a pair, but both are remarkably intact.Left gauntlet: Contemporary to right and also for cavalry. It is, however, less gracefully modeled & lacks brass caps of its partner. The lining-glove is of coarse, canvas-like fabric. The edge of the cuff is riveted directly to the metacarpal defense of five lames which are themselves deeper, and with more pronounced points at the ends. The knuckle-plate has a more shallow curve to the hand, but with more rounded bossings for the fingers. The thumb-plate is similarly attached, and is preserved; it is pointed at the end, and of triangular, medially ridged section. The strap across the inside of the wrist has an iron buckle.
ProvenancePurchased by Museum from J. Gluckselig & Sohn (Vienna, Austria) on December 1, 1936. Paid $300 for lot HAM#s 2383-2387. Old record states this armor was dealer's number 28, and mentions another "tag 1145". Collection transfer from Higgins Armory, Janaury 2014.
